Melvin L. Bell was born in Hempstead, New York. He lived there for three and a half years prior to his family moving to Augusta, Georgia. Shortly thereafter they moved from Augusta to Charleston, South Carolina where he began preschool at the age of five and eventually graduated from Burke High School in downtown Charleston with honors. Upon graduation Mr. Bell made the decision to enter the United States Navy where he spent thirteen years and was honorably discharged in 1994.
During my time in the Navy, I had the pleasure of visiting many foreign countries where I had the privilege of engaging with many different nationalities, cultures, ethnicities and religions. A learning experience very few people get the opportunity to enjoy.
As a trained logistics expert by the Navy, upon my discharge, I felt it necessary to pursue this as a profession in my civilian life as it was something I thoroughly enjoyed and found it challenging as it was a profession that required a strict discipline.
In less than a week of discharge I interviewed with the Veterans Administration medical logistics division where I was offered and accepted a position as a Logistics Specialist. I have held this position for twenty-nine years and I am currently regarded as a Logistics Management Specialist.
Regarding Robert Taylor Real Estate, I met Mr. Taylor while escorting my grandson on an AAU traveling basketball team where Mr. Taylor’s son was a member. During our discussions I discovered he was a real estate broker for four decades and was in the process of building a company for his son and invited me to join him. After months of discussions and considerable investigations I decided to become a part of his group. Working with a group or team takes effort and finding the right combinations of personalities can be rather difficult. Honesty, integrity, professionalism and knowledge are the founding blocks for success. You take one of these away and the road is not navigational.
Real estate in some respects is very similar to being a logistics medical specialist. Both professions require being focused and making sure all assignments are carried out according to plan. One may cost you your life while the other could cost you thousands of dollars.
I have called Charleston my home for my entire life. If you are not familiar with the language it is “Yes Sir” and “Yes Ma’am”! Southern hospitality is not just a tradition it is a reality where respect is given and hopefully returned in the same manner. I raised two daughters and they have given me five grandchildren which I cherish wholeheartedly. In my personal life as well as my professional life I take great pride in doing the right thing and setting an example for these kids is a must.
Working with the consummate professional does not guarantee perfection but it does help to eliminate costly mistakes.
